August 7, 2018 I have been following the #unfollowtortus and after his recent post further attacking the woman who came forward speaking her truth about the troubling interaction with Tortus, I am compelled to publicly show my support for @softearth.ceramics . I have been hesitant because of the inherently problematic nature of Instagram, that to make a statement of support, it is tainted by allowing me to benefit by getting likes or follows. I was, and am really turned off by the idea that I or someone could use this very real problem of sexism in the field for personal branding profit. However, I have been incredibly fortunate to have my education and career mentored and formed by some of the most amazing, strong and accomplished women artists and teachers. I am so appreciative for @potsinaction to turn the negativity, the tearing down (though tearing down false idols is necessary for real change), into something that builds up and is positive in #piabadasswomen. My career has been predominately shaped by women and I could never show enough appreciation to them, but I can stand in solidarity in uplifting artists who should have the acclaim, privilege and power that @tortus uses so abhorrently.
