So great to be home, but my mind keeps going back to the sights of Jingdezhen. It’s a crazy city; overwhelming in its contrasts, skill, beauty, chaos, and hospitality. I’ve promised myself that I’ll return before another 8 years go by.

Having the exterior of my home painted, turns out I’m missing 17 rosettes. instead of pressing new metal ones, restoration cornice work uses cast plastics. The painter saw my studio and offered me to make them instead of contracting out the work, thus saving a lot of money. Using Smoothon silicone mold and casting plastics. This was especially timely after my friend and colleague @lesliepvd sent me an incredible article about how we live in a world of deskilled makers who come out of programs who teach ideologies and lifestyles rather than skill and technique. Makes me even more aware of the value of crafts in a post-digital, deskilled world.

Miniature wingback arm component. This was just a test run, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Now that I have learned the basic principles it’s time to see how I can start abstracting and using them as sculptural components.

Studio still life: making furniture composites. 🤞 it works out, as I’m making it up as I go along. The tricky part will be figuring out how to upholster it.
